Pr - <br />JAN <br />JAN 16 1 <br />989 <br />BOOK Ftq; <br />76111 <br />architect to expand the space needs, and in the interim, we <br />haven't lost anything. <br />Discussion ensued as .to land acquisition, and it was <br />confirmed the money that has been allocated to us in this present <br />fiscal year could be used for that purpose and.for the architect. <br />Commissioner Scurlock inquired why we haven't asked for the <br />$500,000 to be applied to the purchase price of the land we <br />already have acquired since it was intended for a Health <br />Building, and then we wouldn't have to worry about losing the <br />funding. <br />OMB Director Baird felt the reason we didn't was because the <br />land was purchased over a period of years. <br />Commissioner Scurlock asked if anyone has pursued the <br />ability to have a repayment for the acquisition of the property <br />for the Health Building, and Commissioner Eggert felt that was a <br />great idea. <br />Question arose as to the amount of property still needed, <br />and Director Dean advised that when he last checked on this in <br />1987, we lacked about three Tots of what is needed for the <br />footprint and the parking lot of the original design of the <br />proposed Health Building. <br />Commissioner Scurlock believed we should move ahead in that <br />direction and rent in the meantime, and Board members generally <br />concurred. <br />Commissioner Bird inquired about the cost of proposed <br />renovations to the.Cappelen Building because he felt if we <br />improve it substantially to where we increase its value, possibly <br />we should buy it and then could later sell it and recoup the <br />money. i <br />Director Dean advised that there are three compartments in <br />the building. We are presently leasing one, the middle one is <br />vacant, and the third is occupied by the bread company. The cost <br />to renovate the middle compartment is somewhere between <br />$10-15,000, and if we also get the bread company space, then we <br />34 <br />
