RESOLUTION NO. R-89-18 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, STATING THE POSITION OF THE COUNCIL - <br />IN REGARD TO JUNGLE TRAIL ON THE BARRIER ISLAND IN INDIAN <br />RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian recognizes the unique scenic <br />and historical value' of the 7 1/2 mile length of Jungle Trail both <br />north and south of' County -Road 510; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian recognizes the need to preserve <br />the sensitive environment and animal habitat which is contiguous <br />along Jungle Trail; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian recognizes the significance of <br />the unique recreational resources the Trail offers to residents of <br />and visitors. to Indian River County; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Sebastian has a vested interest in the <br />preservation of our north county heritage, especially in the <br />immediate vicinity of the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA, that we do publicly declare our <br />endorsement of the following: <br />1) Our support of the entire Indian River Jungle Trail <br />Management Plan. <br />2) Our support for the unity and continuity of both North and <br />South Jungle Trail. <br />3) Our support of the Jungle Trail Conceptual Plan as proposed <br />by the Indian River County Historical Society. <br />4) ''Our support for the concept that Jungle Trail always remain <br />open to vehicular traffic by the public. <br />5) Our support for reversing the decision by the County <br />Commission one year ago to close the north section of -the <br />Trail between the Windsor Polo Club and the Pelican Island <br />Wildlife Sanctuary to vehicular traffic. <br />6) Our support for long range planning and management by <br />Indian River County to protect the Jungle Trail historical <br />corridor for the benefit of Indian River County residents <br />and future generations. <br />This Resolution shall be effective upon final passage by the <br />City Council. <br />APR 11 '1989 <br />38 <br />by: <br />CITY OF SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA <br />Richard B.
