MascolaCPO Manager <br />Division of Purchasing <br />SUBJ: IRC BID NO.#89-17-ALKYD THEOPLASTIC <br />. y.. not, ♦.r a <br />BACKGROUND: <br />IRC BID NO #89-17 dated August 24, 1988 for Alkyd Thermoplastic <br />was awarded to CATAPHOTE, INC., Jackson, Ms. <br />ANALYSIS: <br />The pavement marking crew, frau Traffic Control have reported <br />the following problems with Thermoplastic Material being supplied <br />now by Cataphote, Inc. <br />1) 50 degree to 75 degree higher temperature is <br />needed to melt blocks increasing propane <br />fuel costs. - <br />2) The melted material is thinner making it more <br />difficult for the operator to do a neat job <br />on uneven surfaces. <br />3) The glass beads separate and sink to the bottom <br />of the applicator causing valve clogging. <br />4) The cardboard boxes the material is shipped in. <br />are not strong enough to be re -used to hold <br />left -over material when the equipment is emptied <br />for cleaning. <br />5) After it is on the road, the material appears <br />to absorb oil and grease erre readily causing <br />discoloration. <br />R C DATIC N: <br />BID #89-17 Alkyd Thermoplastic be cancelled and awarded to <br />the Second Low Bidder, Pavemark Inc.
