Mrs. Rap Oropeza emphasized that the residents of the <br />Highlands worked hard to raise money to put in sidewalks to <br />protect their children, and she felt that the residents of Oslo <br />Park could do that as well. She noted that the Highlands was <br />mentioned in the newspaper as being a community of renters, not <br />homeowners, and asked when it is a crime to be too poor to buy a <br />home. Just because they are renters doesn't mean they don't love <br />their kids just as much as homeowners do. <br />Marcel Foyer, 145 20th Avenue, was opposed to opening up <br />20th Avenue. He felt he did .his homework when he bought his home <br />on 20th Avenue just last year. When he asked the County about <br />the future of 20th Avenue, he was told that it wasn't going to be <br />opened up and that the issue was settled. Now, however, that is <br />just what is being considered even though the map shows 20th <br />Avenue to be a collector road, not an arterial. It seemed to him <br />that there have been a lot of mistakes in the past and we should. <br />be careful in planning the roadways for the future. <br />Commissioner Scurlock said he was ready to make a Motion <br />because we have had more than two hours of discussion and there <br />doesn't seem to be any new information. <br />Chairman Wheeler noted that these people have been sitting <br />here for a long period of time waiting to be heard and he is <br />willing to sit here and listen until all have been heard who wish <br />to be heard, and Commissioner Eggert agreed. <br />Frank Amato, 875 19th Street SW in Vero Highlands, felt it <br />is a foregone conclusion that both the second and third accesses <br />are needed and should be done now when it costs less. He wished <br />to make the following points: 1) Why put the Fire Dept. to the <br />expense of putting up another station in the Highlands when 20th <br />Avenue can be opened up. 2) Provide signalization and stop <br />signs. 3) Do the right thing for the greatest amount of people. <br />4) Possible litigation.
