of their clients and witnesses who may be afraid of someone who <br />has threatened them. <br />Chairman Wheeler felt that generally if someone involved <br />with a trial is violent enough to commit a crime, you will have <br />some prior knowledge that may be a possibility and probably will <br />take additional precautions. If you are dealing with someone who <br />wants to get someone and is intelligent or devious enough to <br />conceal his emotions, he will wait for his opportunity no matter <br />what you do. <br />Commissioner Scurlock asked why the local Bar Association <br />doesn't get together and put up $100,000 to help deal with this <br />situation to secure a facility they work in if they are so <br />concerned. <br />Attorney Nall noted that this is something that is easy to <br />joke about, but it is a dangerous situation. Generally people <br />who end up going to court are not happy to be there. The danger <br />does exist, and it exists for the judges who have their quarters <br />there, and it exists for the judicial assistants who are there <br />every day. They already have a buzzer that you have to press to <br />get in the judges' offices. <br />Commissioner Scurlock pointed out that the Commission's <br />secretaries have everybody in the world walking into the <br />Commission offices, and they have no protection or warning at <br />all. <br />Attorney Nall just wished to note that the lawyers will be <br />unhappy if you don't put more security in the Courthouse. He <br />continued to present arguments about various dangerous hypo- <br />thetical situations and stressed that the County has an <br />antiquated facility and they are leaving people who work there <br />with absolutely no security. <br />Commissioner Scurlock stated that is absolutely not correct; <br />hand-held metal detectors are currently available. <br />Chairman Wheeler understood that at the St. Lucie County <br />Courthouse many of the judges, etc., who use that courthouse on a <br />37 <br />FACE °� <br />
