She believed that the Commissioners as elected <br />officials have access to another elected official a lot faster <br />than any paid lobbyist. Finally, Mrs. Johnson stressed that the <br />Board is looking at a big expenditure that they do not have <br />included in the county's budget for this year. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR THE QUESTION. <br />It was voted on and carried unanimously. <br />ADDED ITEM - IN REGARD TO RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE SHERIFF'S IN <br />THEIR SUIT AGAINST THE D.O.C. <br />Chairman Wheeler requested that an item in regard to <br />supporting the Sheriffs Association in their lawsuit against the <br />D.O.C., that he had inadvertently overlooked adding to the Agenda <br />earlier, be added at this time for discussion. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Eggert, the Board unanimously added the <br />above described item to the Agenda as requested by <br />the Chairman. <br />Chairman Wheeler commented that after reading the article in <br />the paper and talking to Sheriff Dobeck, he would like to ask the <br />County by way of a Resolution to petition the League of Counties <br />to support and even enter into the Sheriffs' suit against the <br />D.O.C. We may not win, but it will put political pressure on <br />the state to build more jails. We have about 560 beds empty in <br />the state system daily because we are only allowed to use 99% of <br />our capacity, and we are releasing prisoners with 1/3 of their <br />term being served, or even Tess.
