POLICY 3.1: The county, upon establishment of a metropolitan <br />planning organization will study methods of protecting <br />rights-of-way and corridors for future mass transit roadways and <br />high speed rail. - NO COMMENT <br />PORTS, AVIATION AND RELATED FACILITIES <br />Goal <br />It is the goal of Indian River County to ensure that safe, <br />convenient, and accessible ports and aviation facilities are <br />available to Indian River County residents. <br />OBJECTIVE 1 ADEQUATE AVIATION FACILITIES <br />The county will ensure that aviation demand is met throughout the <br />planning period. <br />Commissioner Bird wished to know why we make so much ref- <br />erence to supporting St. Lucie County Airport, and Director <br />Keating advised that it is because they are the regional <br />facility. He did not think we are looking at becoming a major <br />airport facility here. <br />OBJECTIVE 2 CONSISTENCY <br />The county will ensure that any airport expansion is consistent <br />with the policies of other elements of the comprehensive plan. <br />Chairman Eggert read the following policy, which has some <br />changes: <br />POLICY 2.2: The county will develop, adopt and enforce an <br />airport zoning component of its land development regulations, <br />prohibiting encroachment of incompatible uses, such as tall <br />structures in airport clear zones and height restriction zones, <br />and residential uses inside the 65 Idn noise contour zones <br />associated with public use airports in the county._ <br />NO COMMENT <br />OBJECTIVE 3 TRAFFIC <br />The county will ensure that all county roadways providing direct <br />or indirect access to airport facilities maintain a minimum <br />service level of "D" on a peak hour/peak season/peak direction <br />basis. - NO COMMENT <br />OBJECTIVE 4 COORDINATION <br />The County will ensure that any airport expansion plans are <br />coordinated with appropriate jurisdictions and/or agencies. <br />NO COMMENT <br />`SI <br />131 PGCIKF,,�.r ,, S <br />
