BOOS <br />Providing staff assistance for cultural events: <br />Co -sponsoring cultural events; <br />Promoting private arts organizations; and <br />Continuing financial support through tourist tax revenue <br />for the Indian River Arts Council, the designated Local <br />Arts Agency. <br />Chairman Eggert referred to the last provision, and noted <br />that there is some debate about the Indian River Arts Council <br />being the designated Local Arts Agency. She asked Commissioner <br />Wheeler, who chairs the Tourist Tax Committee, if other cultural <br />organizations can apply, and he said yes. She, therefore, <br />wondered if this should just read "Continuing financial support <br />through tourist tax revenue for private arts and cultural <br />organizations." <br />Director Keating felt that would be fine. <br />Commissioner Bird left the meeting at this point to make a <br />telephone call, and the meeting recessed until he returned a few <br />minutes later and there was once again a quorum. <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ELEMENT <br />Goal <br />It is the goal of Indian River County to have balanced and <br />orderly economic growth. <br />OBJECTIVE 1 LOW UNEMPLOYMENT RATE <br />Subsequent to plan adoption, the county will have a reduction in <br />its unemployment rate of one percentage point by 1992. <br />- NO COMMENT <br />OBJECTIVE 2 BALANCED ECONOMIC GROWTH <br />The county will have a more diversified economy by increasing the <br />number of employees of the non top three major industrial sectors <br />in the county by 1% each year beginning in 1992. - NO COMMENT <br />144 <br />
