MAR 131990 EMU <br />is something that was planned for from the beginning; it is <br />needed; and the price is good. <br />Commissioner Scurlock felt you can go to any library in the <br />country and see what they are using, and Commissioner Wheeler <br />asked just what you get for the $44,000 - is it simply their <br />advice? <br />Chairman Eggert agreed that it is mainly their advice, and <br />this would be for the two libraries. She advised that the <br />consultant does not get a commission on what we purchase. <br />Commissioner Scurlock stated that he will have real trouble <br />supporting this. <br />Chairman Eggert was sorry he felt that way because this is <br />something the Library Advisory Board really wants and the <br />Librarians. She noted that we have gone to a great deal of <br />trouble to design the outside of the buildings, and we do not <br />want the interior of the libraries put together in a hodge-podge <br />way. We need this service to put the whole thing together <br />harmoniously. <br />Commissioner Bowman asked if they determine the color of the <br />walls and the carpet, and Chairman Eggert confirmed that they <br />coordinate everything. <br />Commissioner Wheeler felt it seems like a lot of money, but <br />Chairman Eggert assured him that it isn't. <br />Board members continued to voice concerns, and Commissioner <br />Bird asked if Dow Howell has interior designers on staff or do <br />they sub this out. <br />General Services Director Dean advised that Dow Howell has <br />these people on their staff, and question then arose as to <br />whether we don't have expertise on our staff to do this type of <br />thing. <br />In discussion, it was noted that this furniture package <br />amounts to about a 1/2 million dollars, and Director Dean <br />commented that in the short time he has been involved with <br />libraries, he has learned that there is a lot of difference in <br />6 <br />
