Each <br />department within the libraries requires a certain type chair and <br />a certain type table, a learning center, etc. These people have <br />agreed to come in and take the interior design, specify the <br />furnishings, do all the interior decorating, color coordination, <br />the signage, etc. They draw up the specs and review the bids. <br />It was noted that the consultant's charge is about 9% of the <br />total furniture package, and Chairman Eggert pointed out that is <br />their cap. <br />Commissioner Scurlock wished to be sure that staff intern- <br />ally will be comparing their specs and the price on those items <br />in terms of alternatives, and Director Dean assured him they <br />would. <br />Commissioner Bird did feel it is necessary to have some <br />expertise beyond our staff to handle the color coordination and <br />provide the proper furniture for the different functions in the <br />libraries, but he also did believe it probably would have been <br />better if this had been incorporated in the original contract. <br />Director Dean pointed out that one problem is that we had <br />such difficulties with the architect on the North County Library <br />that he did not believe we would want them to be doing this. <br />Commissioner Scurlock inquired about the estimated number of <br />hours involved, and Director Dean advised they did not give an <br />exact number of hours, but they did give a cap on it. They also <br />did say that if we could use the same specs on the furniture for <br />both buildings, it would cut down on the hours. <br />Commissioner Bowman felt the fact that this includes both <br />libraries makes it a reasonable price for the service. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Bowman, Commissioner Wheeler voting in <br />opposition, the Board by a 4-1 vote, approved the <br />additional services as described above; approved <br />Budget Amendment #050 to take the monies from the <br />1 ~j - <br />MAR 3 199p ooK FA�,� 5 <br />
