Library Roles <br />Indian River County Law Library <br />The primary role of the Law Library is "reference center." The library <br />actively provides timely, accurate, and useful information for the legal <br />profession and for residents in their pursuit of job-related and personal <br />interests. The library promotes on-site and telephone reference & <br />information services, interlibrary loan services, Internet and online <br />resources access. <br />North Indian River County Library <br />The primary role is "popular materials library." The library features curre <br />high demand, high interest materials in a variety of formats for persons of <br />all ages. The library actively promotes and encourages the use of its <br />collections. Multiple copies of best sellers, new titles in all formats are <br />required. The staff is knowledgeable about current, popular interests and <br />anticipates "hot" titles. <br />The secondary roles are the "independent learning center" and the <br />"preschooler's door to learning." The library supports individuals of all age <br />pursuing a sustained program of learning independent of any educational <br />provider. The library is the only institution available to persons regardless <br />of age or the ability to pay. Reference materials and how-to manuals in a 1 <br />formats are available for the independent learner. Staff must be available to <br />assist in the pursuit of interests and to guide to the appropriate materials. <br />The facility provides comfortable reading areas, and space is available for <br />quiet study. <br />The library also encourages young children to develop an interest in rear <br />and learning through services for children and for parents and children <br />together. The library promotes reading readiness from infancy, providin€ <br />services for self -enrichment and for discovering the pleasures of reading <br />and learning. The library provides a place designated for preschoolers to <br />satisfy their curiosity, stimulate new interests, and find information.
