Staff is knowledgeal <br />about early childhood development and children's literature. <br />Indian River County Main Library <br />Primary goals are "reference center," "independent learning center," and <br />"popular materials library." Secondary roles are the "preschooler's door <br />learning," the "formal education support center," and the "community <br />activities/infonnation center." <br />The library actively provides timely, accurate, and useful information to <br />those in pursuit of job-related and personal interests. Staff provides on-si <br />and telephone reference/information services, interlibrary loan services, <br />research classes, provide Internet, online reference resource services, and <br />assist with Florida history and genealogy research. The library supports <br />individuals of all ages who are pursuing a sustained program of learning <br />independent of any educational provider. Comprehensive collections are <br />available to support their varied interests, from career development and <br />basic skills to writing for publication and advanced historical research. <br />`"' Information is available in many formats, including microfilm and fiche, <br />Internet, and online resources. The collection strengths are in literature, <br />business, medical, history, Florida history, county history, war informatic <br />maps, and genealogy. <br />Staff is knowledgeable in general, as well as specialized reference. <br />Wireless Internet and public computers are available. <br />Over 70% of the materials budget is expended on reference, Florida Hi <br />& Genealogy, online services, and nonfiction materials, supporting the <br />primary roles of "reference center" and "independent learning center." <br />The primary role of "popular materials library" is supplemented by the <br />Friends of the Library book lease plan. The Friends donate annually for <br />purchase of multiple copies of popular materials.
