LAW WEEK 2014 PROCLAMATION <br />"AMERICAN DEMOCRACY AND THE RULE OF LAW: WHY EVERY <br />VOTE MATTERS" <br />WHEREAS, Law Week is a week of public acknowledgement of our nation's and Florida's <br />heritage of justice, liberty and equality under the law, and May 1st has been declared "Law Day" by the <br />United States Congress; and <br />WHEREAS, The American Bar Association has declared the theme for Law Week 2014 as <br />"American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters"; and <br />WHEREAS, this year's theme recognizes the importance of each and every vote and our right to <br />vote in local, state and national elections; and <br />WHEREAS, the members of the Indian River County Bar Association, the Young Lawyers <br />Division and the Indian River County Lawyers Auxiliary will celebrate Law Week with the following <br />events: <br />• Indian River County Lawyers Auxiliary has coordinated with every school in the County to have a <br />lawyer visit the school to speak to the students about the importance of Law Week. <br />• The Young Lawyers Division and the IRC Bar Association will sponsor an "Ask -a -Lawyer" on <br />Thursday, May 1 from 10 am - 4 pm at the IRC Main Library in Vero Beach. Citizens can receive <br />free legal advice from area volunteer attorneys. <br />• The Supervisor of Elections will visit all of the high schools in the County to register eligible <br />student voters. <br />• The Young Lawyers Division will host the Judge's Breakfast on Thursday, May 1 from 8-10 am in <br />the jury room of the courthouse for the local judges, magistrates, judicial staff and assistants and <br />attorneys. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE INDIAN RIVER COUNTY BOARD OF <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS that the Board does hereby proclaim April 27 through May 3, 2014, as Law <br />Week and call upon the citizens of Indian River County to acknowledge the importance of our legal and <br />judicial systems with appropriate ceremonies and activities, and to display the flag of the United States <br />and Florida in support of this educational observance.
