Gifford Nei2,hborhood Plan 2014 <br /> 4 <br /> Appendix A 4 <br /> Adult Education Programs <br /> Following is a list and description of the adult education programs currently offered: <br /> • Practical Nursing Program <br /> This is a yearlong program and students must be 18 years old with a high school diploma to sit for the NCLEX (National Council <br /> Licensure Examination) exam at the end of the program. Students who pass the program and exam can apply for a state nursing <br /> license. <br /> • Medical Assistant Program <br /> The Medical Assistant Program is a 340 hour program designed for students interested in learning both the clerical and clinical <br /> aspects of the medical office setting. Students learn to properly maintain patient records, medical forms, handle confidentiality, <br /> medical office ethics, how to communicate with insurance companies, pharmacies and other medical offices. Students perform <br /> hands-on activities related to Phlebotomy, injections, vital signs, CPR, first aid, EKG, and other skills. Students who successfully <br /> complete the program may choose to sit for the national exam available through National Healthcareer Association. <br /> • Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide (PCT) <br /> The nursing assistant program prepares students to become a nursing assistant who, under the direction of a licensed nurse, performs <br /> important basic nursing skills such as: checking vital signs, promoting comfort, personal hygiene, assisting with meals, safety, skin <br /> care, and many more necessary tasks. Class time includes instruction in: basic Anatomy and Physiology, classification of diseases, <br /> nutrition, specimen collection, blood sugar testing, infection control (HIV, blood borne and airborne pathogens, isolation procedures, <br /> and the handling of infectious waste), first aid, domestic violence training, and CPR training. In addition, students receive training in <br /> professional behavior and ethics. Students who successfully complete this program are prepared to take the Florida State <br /> Certification test. <br /> • Pharmacy Technician Program <br /> This program is designed to train students to obtain entry-level positions in the Pharmacy Technician industry. The program teaches <br /> students, basic pharmacology, measurement and calculating techniques, pharmaceutical abbreviations, terminology, preparations of <br /> Community Development <br /> Indian River County 92 <br />
