During this time, the child abuse rate decreased from 12.2 to 10.4 per 1,000 individuals in the age group in Indian River, and from 17.8 to 12.2 per 1,000 in Florida. Verified cases of child abuse include an unduplicated number of children who were considered alleged victims of child maltreatment and upon investigation, the determination was made that they did indeed endure some type of maltreatment.
