Summary of RFP No. 2015023 Solid Waste and Recyclables <br /> p.m. Collection Services <br /> (memorandum dated March 4, 2015) -----163-167 <br /> Director of Utility Services Vincent Burke reported that the <br /> current franchise agreements with Republic Services of <br /> Florida, L.P. d/b/a Treasure Coast Refuse, and Waste <br /> Management Inc. of Florida, for solid waste and recyclables <br /> collection services will expire on September 30, 2015. On <br /> December 16, 2014, the Solid Waste Disposal District (SWDD) <br /> Board authorized staff to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) <br /> for collection services, and the new contracts will begin <br /> October 1, 2015. He stated that the RFP process aligns with <br /> the SWDD's goal of meeting the State's 75% recycling <br /> mandate by the year 2020. Director Burke disclosed that four <br /> qualified bids have been received, but a "cone of silence" is in <br /> effect until the March 18, 2015 Special Call Meeting. On <br /> March 18, 2015, the Board will be asked to make decisions on, <br /> but not limited to: (1) number of franchise areas (one or two); <br /> (2) frequency of garbage collection (once or twice weekly); (3) <br /> dual or single-stream recycling; (4) recycling bins or wheeled <br /> carts; and(5) subscription or universal garbage pickup. <br /> Solid Waste Disposal District Page 1 <br /> March 17,2015 <br />
