Church indicated they would be willing to sell the church <br />property contingent upon approval of the congregation as a whole. <br />If the congregation approves it, we would want our consultants to <br />take a conceptual look at that property under the master plan to <br />see if it would be a viable option . It is our understanding <br />that the congregation will be voting on the matter next week, and <br />with that kind of a timeframe, the May 22nd date would give the <br />consultants enough time to look at the church property, get the <br />master plan back and distributed so that all interested parties <br />have an opportunity to look at the final product well in advance <br />of the actual presentation. <br />Chairman Eggert felt the County Administrator should be <br />having discussions with the City of Vero Beach since the church <br />property is not by and large in the downtown redevelopment area. <br />She didn't know what the attitude of the current City Council <br />would be on that property. <br />Administrator Chandler explained that there have been some <br />preliminary discussions with the city staff on that piece of <br />property, but we were reluctant to incur any consultant's costs <br />until we found out whether the church is willing to sell the <br />property. <br />Commissioner Scurlock didn't want the master plan held up <br />because of the church property, because quite frankly, he wasn't <br />very optimistic about that possibility in that many of the <br />members were baptized there and the Press Journal just having run <br />an article on the church being there for 75 years and designating <br />areas as historical. If the congregation is willing to sell that <br />property, he felt we need to research all title or deed <br />restrictions on that particular property since that property, as <br />well as St. Helen's, was conveyed over to those churches years <br />ago from a public entity. There may be a deed restriction <br />somewhere along the line that says if it ceases to be used for <br />church purposes, it reverts back.
