Proclamation - Child Abuse Prevention Month <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DESIGNATING MONTH OF <br />APRIL, 1990 AS CHILD <br />ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH <br />WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect is a serious and <br />growing problem affecting more than 2 million of our nation's <br />children annually, affecting 508 of the children locally and <br />3,033 children in the district; and <br />WHEREAS, this societal malignancy called child abuse <br />and neglect respects no racial, religious, class or geographic <br />boundaries, and, in fact, has reached epidemic proportions in <br />nearly all regions of our nation; and <br />WHEREAS, the Exchange Club Center for the Prevention of <br />Child Abuse of the Treasure Coast, Inc., through its volunteers, <br />parenting classes and education programs is making significant <br />progress in stopping this crime against our nation and <br />community's children and families: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the month of <br />April, 1990 be observed as <br />CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH <br />in Indian River County, and the Board urges all citizens to use <br />this time to better understand, recognize, and respond to this <br />grievous problem; and the Board further congratulates the 11 <br />Exchange Clubs and Exchange Club Center of the Treasure Coast on <br />this 10th Anniversary of their National Exchange Club Foundation <br />for the Prevention of Child Abuse and wishes them continued <br />success in helping families break free from the cycle of child <br />abuse. <br />Adopted this 17th day of April, 1990 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA <br />Carolyn., K.
