He felt the program they are offering has <br />some merit, but he does not like the way it is structured. They <br />are recommending the non-violent offenders be sentenced to the 18 <br />month drug treatment program. Therefore, they would be incarcer- <br />ated, but they wouldn't be getting gaintime so they could be <br />released early. By this the state would put the burden back on <br />the counties and then have the county apply for a grant. He <br />commented that he has been informed, however, that we cannot use <br />those grant funds for a stockade. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Wheeler, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Scurlock, the Board unanimously authorized <br />the Chairman to send a letter to appropriate officials <br />indicating our support of the position taken by the <br />League of Counties and the Florida Sheriff's Association. <br />There being no further business, on Motion duly made, <br />seconded and carried, the Board adjourned at 10:00 o'clock A.M. <br />ATTEST: <br />Clerk <br />42 <br />__7Cha�irman/� <br />
