AUG d 9 199Gp <br />Discussion followed as to the workshop suggestion regarding <br />changing the requirement for shrubs and hedges to be a minimum of <br />18" in height when measured immediately after planting to 24." <br />Chairman Eggert believed that 24"•.unplanted gives you about <br />18" above the ground, and if you want 24" above the ground, it <br />requires a bigger plant and greater cost. She believed the <br />wording as we have it is fine if we only want the plantings 18" <br />above the ground. <br />William Koolage voiced support for Commissioner Bird in <br />regard to doing away with visual pollution in the county, <br />especially along access corridors. He cited the attractiveness <br />of Boca Raton which has an architectural and landscape review. <br />Director Keating noted that we have a 75' buffer on SR 60 <br />and he believed we also are going to address landscaping in front <br />of walls. <br />Juan Posada, interested citizen, totally agreed with the <br />need for such landscaping. He personally would like to develop <br />some properties on Old Dixie and make it look nice, but did not <br />see any work on the County's part to help develop Old Dixie in a <br />nice manner. He wondered what plans there are for doing <br />something about Old Dixie. He is all for putting in extra trees <br />and making it look nice, but asked that the County work with the <br />developers and see if they can generate some excitement in regard <br />to doing something there. <br />Warren Dill referred to Page 17 (c) which says that new and <br />existing landscape irrigation systems shall be required to con- <br />nect to wastewater effluent lines when determined to be <br />available. He wondered if there is any decision on whether <br />there would be a project threshhold for that and also wished to <br />know what is the definition of "when determined to be available." <br />Planner DeBlois agreed that we need to look into that <br />further and coordinate with Utilities. <br />Mr. Dill believed that you will run into resistance from <br />"existing" developments, and Commissioner Bird suggested that <br />42 <br />
