LANG <br />ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST <br />DEPARTMENT OF UTILITY SERVICES <br />SUBJECT: CATHODIC PROTECTION SYSTEMS REPAIR AND INSTALLATION <br />BACKGROUND: _ <br />The Department of Utility Services currently owns four steel <br />elevated water storage tanks. These tanks have cathodic protection <br />systems installed in the tanks to limit corrosion. Harco <br />Technologies Corporation has provided the •inspection services in <br />fiscal years 1989 and 1990, and will do so in fiscal year 1991. <br />The South County tank's system needs to be replaced, as the anode <br />system is 75% depleted, -the cabinet needs replacing and the unit is <br />not of the self-adjusting type, which is necessary for fluctuating <br />water levels. <br />The River Edge ground storage <br />sacrificial anode type system to <br />constructed improvements. - <br />ANALYSIS: <br />tank requires installation of a <br />limit corrosion of the recently <br />The Department of Utility Services has two standardized brands and <br />sources for this type of installation. Quotes were solicited from <br />the two firms and the results were as follows: <br />Harco Technologies Corporation $8,685.00 <br />Cathodic Protection Services Co. 9,728.00 <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />The Department of Utility Services recommends that the Board of <br />County Commissioners authorize the purchase of the two cathodic <br />protection systems from Harco Technologies Corporation from budgeted <br />funds in Account No. 471-219-536-044.74. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Wheeler, SECONDED by Com- <br />missioner Scurlock, the Board unanimously (4-) auth- <br />orized the purchase of the two cathodic protection <br />systems from Marco Technologies Corp. as recommended <br />by staff. <br />67 <br />90 <br />POOK Ft1GE yq- <br />we` <br />
