F_ <br />NOV 2 01990 <br />mor 81 F'g <br />exhibits is to present the sea disaster and its consequences <br />through the use of artifacts, visual images and text. Additional <br />information about contact between the Spanish and the native Ays <br />population has come to light, as have survivors' documents, which <br />will be interpreted at the museum. We are requesting funding for <br />a researcher and translator of archival material and a survey <br />report; funding for partial production of these exhibits; and <br />funding for a commemorative publication for public dissemination.• <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT WORK: <br />Exhibit concept development: The Florida Park Service interpretive <br />exhibits planning and development staff, an. interpretive team at <br />the park district and the Mclarty Museum staff will work together <br />to collect information and review all aspects of this exhibit. <br />Research report and translations: This will .be accomplished <br />through the P.R. Yonge Library, Gainsville, Mr. Ignacio Avellanda <br />and Mr. Bruce Chappell. <br />Artifact selection: Working in tandem with the Bureau of <br />Archaeological Research, the Florida Park exhibits staff <br />(curator) will professionally handle all the items that will be <br />used to interpret events. Artifacts that will be included in these <br />exhibits will be selected from the extensive collections available <br />both at the Florida Department of State's Bureau of Archeological <br />Research, and the University of Florida, Gainsville. They include <br />cultural objects such as gold and silver coins; ship's tools and <br />other man-made objects discovered at the site; replicas of <br />survivors' accounts; possible listing of names of the dead prepared <br />by survivors, and replicas of period maps. <br />Exhibit fabrication and installation: A professional consultant <br />will be selected to fabricate the exhibits. <br />Booklet development: This will be accomplished by in-house staff. <br />PROJECT BUDGET (Tentative): <br />Grant Request: <br />Research report $ 3,000.00 <br />Translations $x2,380.00 <br />Exhibit fabrication/installation $40,000.00 <br />Booklet development and printing $15,000.00 <br />Total project costs for which grant . <br />funds are being requested: $60,000.00 <br />Matching Funds (DNR, Div. of Rec. & Parks Fixed Capital -"Outlay <br />funding allocated from its 1990/91 FCO budget): <br />Funds:, <br />Exhibit design/development <br />Dismantling of existing exhibits <br />Total match: <br />171 <br />30 <br />$80,000.00 <br />$ 8,000.00 <br />$ 2,000.00 <br />$90„000.00 <br />. <br />
