Commissioner Bird noted that in some cases we do charge 10% <br />of the gross charges. Mr. Lundy can address whether or not they <br />can afford that, but he would like the Board to consider waiving <br />that percentage. Commissioner Bird personally recommended that <br />we allow the League to have their carnival at the Fairgrounds at <br />the fee of $100 a day and a $200 deposit. <br />Mr. Lundy thanked the Board for allowing this matt-e.r-on the <br />Agenda as an emergency item. He noted that the League has never <br />before ventured into something like this but felt it would get a <br />good way to getassistancefor their community center and help <br />maintain it. They have a deadline and would like the Commission <br />to approve their renting the Fairgrounds for this purpose. Mr. <br />Lundy advised that he talked to the carnival representatives last <br />night after he realized how much work is involved in this, and <br />they have agreed to give them another week - instead of the 5th, <br />the carnival would begin on the 12th. He reported that these <br />people come highly recommended and they have sent references. <br />Many churches have used them for fund raisers. They have <br />supplied a certificate of insurance, and they have a million <br />dollar coverage. In addition, they will provide power with their <br />generators. <br />Chairman Eggert inquired about the kind of rides they will <br />offer, and Mr. Lundy advised there will be 6 kiddie rides, 10 <br />major rides, and 2 or 3 spectacular rides. <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, to approve the lease of the Fair- <br />grounds by the Gifford Progressive Civic League at <br />the rates recommended by Commissioner Bird and to waive <br />the requirement for the County to receive 10% of the <br />gross charges. <br />Commissioner Bowman pointed out that the League also should <br />contact Public Health <br />if food is being <br />sold, and Administrator <br />N 0V <br />2-d 1990 <br />27 <br />anon � F',,E �I <br />
