iirm_ WIMAJ <br />-PUBLIC NOTICE - <br />The Indian River County Sheriff's Office is scheduled for an on-site <br />assessment as part of a program to achieve nationwide accreditation. _ <br />Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement <br />Agencies Inc., the program requires agencies to meet state-of-the-art t <br />standards in four basic areas; policy and procedures, administration, <br />operations, and support services. - <br />As a part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of <br />the community are invited to offer comments at a public information <br />session on January 14, 1991, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. The session will be <br />conducted in the auditorium of .the Sheriff's Administration Building, <br />4055 41st Avenue, Vero Beach, FL. <br />Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by <br />calling 778-0730 on January 14 and 15 between the hours of 1:00 and <br />4:00 pm. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team. <br />Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information <br />session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency's ability <br />to comply with the Commission's standards. A copy of the standards are <br />available at the reception desk at the Sheriff's Administration <br />Building, 4055 41st Avenue, Vero Beach, FL. Local contact is Captain <br />Gary Getchell, 569-6700. <br />Anyone wishing to submit.written comments about the Indian River County <br />Sheriff's Office's ability to comply with the standards for <br />accreditation may send them to the Commission on Accreditation for Law <br />Enforcement Agencies, Inc., 4242E Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, Virginia <br />22030. <br />Chairman Eggert read the above memo aloud and announced that <br />the hearing will be held January 14, 1991, at 7:00 P.M. in the <br />auditorium of the Sheriff's Administration Building. <br />Commissioner Scurlock believed the Notice indicated that the <br />meeting is limited in scope as to what is going to be discussed, <br />i.e., the specific standards. He noted that he frankly was <br />opposed to this whole process in the beginning; he questioned the <br />predicted cost of $23,000, and he now understands that the cost <br />has been substantially more than that. He also has problems with <br />policemen dictating standards for policemen that the County has <br />to fund; he feared the price tag for this program will be <br />staggering and hoped there will be some debate. <br />14 <br />
