Mc ... <br />CAPITAL PROJE GINE <br />DEPARTMENT O SERVICES <br />SUBJECT: MASTER PLANNED DEEP WELL (BACK-UP) ,EFFLUENT DISPOSAL <br />SYSTEM <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Several months ago, the engineering firm of Post, Buckley, Schuh & <br />Jernigan, Inc., completed the effluent disposal master plan. In the <br />effluent master plan, deep well injection disposal is an alternative <br />that may be utilized as a wet weather disposal system for several of <br />our wastewater treatment plants. We now need authorization from the <br />Board of County Commissioners to proceed with the selection process <br />for _the hiring' of a consulting firm for these projects. <br />ANALYSIS: <br />A deep well would be utilized for. alternate disposal iWhen reuse_ <br />methods are not available.. If constructed, the location will be one:: <br />that allows for maximum utilization. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />The staff of the Department of Utility Services recommends that the <br />Board of County Commissioners authorize the Department to proceed <br />with the selection process for an engineering firm for the design of <br />deep well injection systems for Indian River County. <br />18 <br />
