MAY 7 1991 BOOK 83 FACE 41 <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Eggert, the Board unanimously adopted <br />Ordinance 91-17 designating the Chairman of the <br />Board of County Commissioners or, in his absence, <br />Vice Chairman or Board Designee, in this succession, <br />as the official with Authority to declare a state of <br />emergency, et cetera. <br />ORD 1 NANCE 91-17 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, <br />FLORIDA, DESIGNATING THE CHAIRMAN OF THE <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, OR IN HIS <br />ABSENCE, VICE-CHAIRMAN OR BOARD <br />DESIGNEE, IN THIS SUCCESSION, AS THE <br />OFFICIAL WITH AUTHORITY TO DECLARE A <br />STATE OF EMERGENCY IN THE EVENT OF <br />NATURAL OR MANMADE. DISASTER OR THE <br />IMMINENT THREAT THEREOF: AUTHORIZING <br />SUCH OFFICIAL TO TAKE CERTAIN EMERGENCY <br />MEASURES RELATING THERETO; PROVIDING <br />SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE <br />DATE. - <br />WHEREAS, because of the existing and continuing <br />j possibility of the occurrence of natural or manmade <br />disasters or emergencies and destruction resulting <br />therefrom, and in order to Insure the readiness of Indian <br />River County to adequately deal with such disasters and <br />generally provide for the protection of the public health, <br />safety, and welfare and to preserve the lives determined to <br />be In the best .Interest of Indian River County that <br />provisions be made so that authority to take action exists, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, It is the intent of the County to <br />designate a County official to declare a' -local state of <br />emergency In the event of a natural or manmade disaster, or <br />In the imminent threat thereof, and to authorize certain <br />actions relating thereto when a quorum of the Board of <br />County Commissioners is unable to meet, <br />44 <br />
