Brown <br />Director, Management & Budget <br />SUBJECT: FEDERAL FISCAL YEAR 2013 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL <br />JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) PROGRAM <br />CERTIFICATE OF PARTICIPATION <br />DESCRIPTIONS AND CONDITIONS <br />Indian River County has been notified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), <br />Office of Criminal Justice Grants, that $68,509 has been allocated in grant funds for Federal <br />Fiscal Year 2012 to fund local anti-drug abuse projects. This amount is a decrease from the <br />current fiscal year in which Indian River County received $71,497 in federal funds. The letter <br />also recommends that the Board of County Commissioners serve as the coordinating unit of <br />government in development of applications for these funds. FDLE will distribute these funds in <br />accordance with the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Countywide distribution provisions of <br />Chapter 11 D-9, Florida Administrative Code (FAC). <br />Local units of government receiving JAG funding have the flexibility to implement projects in <br />any of the seven federally approved purpose areas listed below. <br />1) Law enforcement programs <br />2) Prosecution and court programs <br />3) Prevention and education programs <br />4) Corrections and community corrections programs <br />5) Drug treatment and enforcement programs <br />6) Planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs <br />7) Crime victim and witness programs <br />For the current fiscal year (2012/2013), Indian River County was allocated $71,497 in federal <br />grant funds, with no match requirement. Likewise, the fiscal year 2013/2014 grant amount of <br />$68,509 will not carry a match requirement. The two programs currently funded are the <br />Substance Awareness Council Drug Testing Program and the Multi -Agency Drug Enforcement <br />Unit (M.A.C.E.). <br />24 <br />
