SECTION 3 <br /> WATER SERVICES <br /> POLYETHYLENE (PE) TUBING & PRESSURE PIPES <br /> 3.01 SCOPE FOR POLYETHYLENE TUBING <br /> This section covers polyethylene pipes and fittings for water services. <br /> 3.02 POLYETHYLENE TUBING 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER AND SMALLER <br /> A. Polyethylene tubing shall comply with applicable requirements for <br /> PE 3408 extrusion compound polyethylene plastic material as <br /> stated in AWWA Standard Specifications C901-96, or latest <br /> revision, and shall comply with the following: <br /> 1. Tubing shall have a working pressure of 200 psi at 73.4° F. <br /> 2. Tubing surfaces shall be glass smooth, and shall be free <br /> from bumps and irregularities. Materials must be <br /> completely homogeneous and uniform in appearance. <br /> 3. Tubing dimensions and tolerances shall correspond with <br /> the values listed in ASTM D-2239, with a standard <br /> dimension ratio (SDR) of 9. <br /> 4. Tubing shall be fully labeled with brand name and <br /> manufacturer, NSF seal, size, type of plastic material, and <br /> ASTM designation with which the tubing complies. <br /> 3.03 JOINTS <br /> A. Joints for polyethylene tubing shall be of the compression type, <br /> utilizing a totally confined grip seal and coupling nut. Stainless <br /> steel tube stiffener inserts shall also be used for PE tubing <br /> services. <br /> B. Other type joints may be considered for specific installations upon <br /> submission of specifications and approval by IRCDUS. <br /> 3.04 INSTALLATION <br /> A. Backfill shall be free of rocks and debris. <br /> B. Bending radius shall be large enough so that tubing is not crimped <br /> or damaged and so that the flow of water is not restricted. <br /> Manufacturer's minimum radius recommendations are to be <br /> utilized during installation of PE tubing. <br /> C. When a residential or commercial property exists within 500' of a <br /> County water main, a private water service may be extended with <br /> 3 - 1 <br />
