• Long distances from store entrances to bus stop <br />• Connection between routes is are not always convenient <br />• Too many transfers between routes to get to common destinations <br />• Lack of awareness of available transit service and stigma associated with using transit <br />• Current service does not accommodate disabled population appropriately <br />• Current service does not serve the needs of younger adults and college students <br />4.4.3 One Wish to Improve Public Transportation <br />The community stakeholders were asked to specify one wish to immediately improve the <br />public transportation system that they believe would have an immediate positive impact. The <br />stakeholder responses are listed below. <br />• Provide a dedicated bus route servicing major employers and businesses during <br />morning and evening peak hours <br />• Extend hours of operation during weekdays <br />• Add a stop at the Indian River State College Vero Campus, thus providing stops on <br />either side of the campus (Library and Building B) <br />• Provide Saturday service to the Indian River State College Vero Campus to allow <br />students to utilize tutoring programs <br />• Extend Friday and Saturday evening service hours to allow young adults to go to the <br />Indian River Mall <br />• Provide service to the County beaches to allow recreational access for families <br />• Improve the image of transit within the community through investment in transit <br />infrastructure <br />4.4.4 Transit's Role in Improving Livability <br />A majority of stakeholders believe that transit plays an important role in improving livability <br />by reducing traffic congestion, improving the overall health of residents and providing a <br />viable commuting option. Some stakeholders believe that transit can become a viable <br />commuting option if GoLine provides sei vice to the major employment centers in the region <br />through connections with other regional transit systems. Some stakeholders indicated that <br />transit can improve the overall health of residents by accommodating bicycles on buses and <br />extending service to the recreational areas of the County. <br />4.4.5 Considerations for Future Transit System <br />The stakeholders were asked to outline specific considerations that need to be incorporated in <br />the planning of the County's future transit system.
