distributed to existing transit users who were more comfortable with documenting their issues <br />and recommendations rather than speak out in public. <br />Generally, users indicated a high level of satisfaction with the transit service and emphasized <br />the importance of continuing to provide the service to the community. A majority of the <br />comments were related to existing issues and barriers and recommended improvements. A <br />summary of comments is listed below. That summary includes the information from the <br />comment cards as well as the one-on-one discussions. Detailed comments by location are <br />included in Appendix F. <br />Existina Issues and Barriers: <br />• Long distances between the transit stop and building entrances, especially for seniors <br />and disabled users <br />• Lack of safe and comfortable pedestrian pathways through shopping plazas <br />• Buses stopping on US 1 and SR 60 rather than dropping off users inside the <br />commercial centers create difficulty in navigating the plazas with cars and people with <br />carts <br />• Buses not stopping at special stops even when users are waiting for the bus <br />• Community Coach not consistent with rules about eligibility of participants <br />• Difficulty in transferring between routes 11 and 5 <br />• Location of the downtown hub creates noise and speed in the downtown <br />neighborhoods <br />• Too many transfers to get to destinations within the County <br />Service Planning Improvements: <br />• Improve transit access to all beaches and inlets, including Wabasso Beach/Inlet, Winter <br />Beach, North Beach and South Beach <br />• Improve service to Sebastian River Medical Center and surrounding commercial <br />destinations including Walgreens, Wal-Mart and IRMC Urgent Care <br />• Extend bus service to Brevard County to connect with the Space Coast Area Transit <br />• Improve transit access to parks, recreation facilities and community centers <br />• Add Sunday service to allow users to travel to weekend destinations <br />• Provide bus shelters at stops located near senior and older adult communities <br />• Provide convenient access from residential areas to grocery stores and fanners markets <br />• Improve advertisement mechanisms to increase attendance at public meetings <br />• Replace diesel buses with natural gas powered buses. <br />• Provide buses with platforrns that can be lowered for ease of entry of passengers. <br />4-39 <br />k= Stanley Consultants K i <br />
