The U.S. <br />Census Bureau bases poverty levels on the number of persons living in the household, and <br />thresholds of income based on the number of persons. Household income data are from the <br />household data set of the U.S. Census. Table 1-7 provides the income levels defining the <br />poverty threshold based on the number and type of residents in a household for the entire <br />United States. Based on data from the 2011 ACS 1 -year estimates, 18,530 Indian River <br />County residents (13.5% of the population) had incomes below the poverty level.
