JOB SPECIFICATION TITLE: Victim Assistant/Advocate <br /> MATCH Position Victim Assistance Unit <br /> Criminal Investigations Division <br /> Indian River County Sheriffs Office <br /> FUNCTION: <br /> The primary job function is to provide approved direct services, and to provide information on available <br /> services and referrals when appropriate to victims of crime in accordance with State Statutes,Grant <br /> Contracts,and IRCSO Policies and Procedures. To act as a liaison for victims with the criminal justice <br /> system and social service agencies available on a national,state,and local level.The immediate supervisor <br /> is the Victim Assistance Coordinator of the Victim Assistance Program. <br /> CRITICAL TASKS: <br /> 1. 55% Respond to crime scenes or other locations of victims in crisis situations to meet with the victims <br /> or victims'survivors to provide crisis intervention and referral to appropriate social service <br /> agencies. In non-crisis situations,make contact with victims by telephone, in person,or by mail <br /> as appropriate and in accordance with the IRCSO Victim Assistance Program. <br /> 2. 20% Provide the victim and/or other persons related to the victim with emotional and/or physical <br /> support in accordance with the Victim Assistance Program. <br /> 3. 5% Inform and instruct crime victims when necessary on the workings of the criminal justice system <br /> and providing victims with information that will help them in understanding the course their case <br /> may be taking. <br /> 4. 15% Responsible for submitting data and crime victim reports detailing work activities. <br /> 5. 2% Perform victim assistance program assignments and special projects as assigned by immediate <br /> supervisor. <br /> 6. 2% Review cases as directed by immediate supervisor. <br /> 7. 1% Serve as IRCSO liaisons with local,state and national victim service organizations as directed and <br /> approved by immediate supervisor. <br /> 8. 0% Assist in recruiting and training volunteers to work in the victim assistance program,as directed <br /> by immediate supervisor. <br /> MAJOR WORK CHARACTERISTICS: <br /> 1. Must know applicable federal,state and local laws pertaining to victims'rights and the policies and <br /> procedures of the Indian River County Sheriffs Office and Iocal Criminal Justice System. <br /> 2. Must be familiar with local services and alternative resources available to ensure victims receive <br /> assistance in recovering from the harm they have endured as a result of the crime. <br /> 3. Must know crisis intervention techniques to provide effective communication and support to <br /> victims who have suffered through traumatic experience. <br /> 4. Must complete and submit appropriate forms for compensation as required by applicable source. <br /> 107 <br />
