Keating, A P; Co rti Development Director <br />FROM: Sasan Rohani, AICP <j '4 <br />Chief, Long -Range Planning <br />DATE: July 9, 2012 <br />SUBJECT Request for the Board of County Commissioners to Approve a Technical <br />Assistance Grant Agreement between the Department of Economic Opportunity <br />(DEO) and Indian River County <br />It is requested that the following information be given formal consideration by the Board of County <br />Commissioners at its regular meeting of July 16, 2013. <br />BACKGROUND <br />On May 31, 2013, the Community Development Department submitted a Community Planning <br />Technical Assistance grant letter of request to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity <br />(DEO) for implementation of several actions of the Gifford Neighborhood Plan. Subsequently, the <br />Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) approved the county's $25,000.00 Technical <br />Assistance Grant and provided the county with a funding and program agreement. To obtain the <br />approved grant funding, the Board of County Commissioners must now formally accept the grant <br />and authorize the chairman to execute the attached agreement with DEO. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />In 2002, the Board of County Commissioners adopted the Gifford Neighborhood Plan. One of the <br />initiatives in that plan is to make streetscape improvements to Martin Luther King Boulevard (45th <br />Street). That roadway is the Gifford community's "main street", an east -west collector road corridor <br />that traverses the heart of Gifford and provides access to a range of institutional, commercial, and <br />residential uses. <br />73 <br />
