Commissioner Eggert further explained the Children's Services <br />Committee was trying to schedule the straw ballot in September <br />rather than November because of the Land Acquisition Committee's <br />referendum on the November ballot. They felt with two such <br />questions on a single ballot the voters might just say no to both <br />items. <br />Discussion ensued resulting in a recommendation to the <br />Children's Services Committee that the preference of the Board is <br />to have the straw ballot in November. <br />Commissioner Eggert led discussion regarding the after-school <br />program with the Board indicating concurrence in extending the <br />program for another year and placing appropriate amounts in the <br />budget. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Eggert, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Wheeler, the Board unanimously approved <br />extending the After -School Program for another year <br />and allocating the funds in the budget. <br />Commissioner Wheeler asked whether this would eventually be <br />picked up by the School Board. Administrator Chandler said there <br />is dialogue periodically. Commissioner Eggert agreed there is <br />dialogue, but with the severe financial conditions in education, <br />they are looking to shed programs, rather than take on more. <br />PANDA ENERGY NATURAL GAS FUELED COGENERATION FACILITY <br />Commissioner Eggert believed each Board member had talked to <br />Panda Energy and realized they are negotiating with FP&L and need <br />a letter of support. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Wheeler, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Scurlock, the Board unanimously <br />approved sending a letter signed by the Chairman <br />indicating the Commission's support of Panda <br />Energy's efforts in cogeneration for the County. <br />AD HOC FIRE COMMITTEE SUMMARY REPORT <br />Commissioner Eggert made the following presentation: <br />KU <br />L i BOOK : f'«:.�� 6 <br />fjp <br />� _ J <br />
