The dual intent <br />was to maintain competitive coverage for employees and to explore <br />ways to limit program costs, which had been escalating rapidly. <br />On January 22, 1991 the Board of County Commissioners approved the <br />Health Benefit Program Committee's recommendation of Stanford & Co. <br />as the qualified consultant with the lowest cost ($8,500). The <br />cost was within the approved budget. <br />On April 23, 1991 the Board of County Commissioners approved an <br />addendum to the contract, providing for Stanford & Co. to assist <br />with Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) discount negotiations. <br />The additional expense was expected to be $5,500. The cost was <br />within the approved budget. <br />Stanford & Co. has•made final recommendations (attached) to the <br />Committee. They have been studied by the Committee with the <br />original objectives in mind and were endorsed. <br />Mary Stanford of Stanford & Co. will attend the August 20 meeting <br />of the Board of County Commissioners to make a presentation and <br />answer questions. <br />Thanks for your assistance. <br />OW <br />
