� � a <br />Another company has been found that can offer the services the county <br />needs on one system, but the one time costs are significant. The <br />company is ZEPHYR WEATHER INFORMATION SERVICE, INC., and staff has <br />been negotiating with this organization culminating in fifteen (15) <br />alternatives of which one has been selected on the basis of <br />affordable short and long term costs. Funds from this account would be used <br />to fund the one time costs for the weather system in the amount of <br />$241,334.00. If < <br />'-,..the Board approves, the County Attorney will be asked to terminate'` <br />:'the contract as soon as possible. :At the time of termination, the y <br />monthly recurring cost for receiving the weather information will be <br />reduced from $434.00 to $315.00, with the new service. <br />With the ZEPHYR system, the county will not be dependent on • phone*-"; <br />lines to receive the weather data. It will be generated by <br />transmission to and from a satellite in orbit. •The weather <br />information will be updated to the county every hour for satellite <br />imagery and immediate for the weather wire making the data received <br />very current so appropriate action can be taken in terms of notice <br />and protection. <br />The system being proposed for consideration at this time is only two <br />of the available software programs out of twelve that can be obtained <br />for weather information.
