GeograRhical Information System <br />The Board reviewed memo from Utility Services Assistant <br />Director Harry Asher dated January 3, 1992: <br />DATE: JANUARY 3, 1992 <br />TO: JAMES E. CHANDLER <br />COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR <br />FROM: TERRANCE G. PINTO <br />DIRECTOR OF UTILr4 SERVICES <br />PREPARED HARRY E. ASHER <br />AND STAFFED <br />BY: ASSISTANT DIRE TOR OF UTILITY SERVICES <br />SUBJECT: GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Department has budgeted funds in prior and in the current fiscal <br />year for the necessary hardware, software, installation, and <br />training for a GIS to service the Department. The Department <br />currently has $150,000.00 approved in its 1991-92 budget for a GIS. <br />In prior fiscal years, the base maps maintained by the Property <br />Appraiser's Office were not on a compatible system to be networked <br />and utilized. <br />The Department has investigated thoroughly the required hardware, <br />software, and other required services to provide asystem that will <br />integrate with existing equipment/software utilized by other <br />Departments within the County. <br />The Property Appraiser's Office has now installed an IBM AS/400 <br />computer for processing and data storage and an IBM RS/6000 computer <br />for property tax mapping. The RS/6000 is networked to the IBM <br />AS/400. The Property Appraiser's Office has installed the ARC/Info <br />Software System on the RS/6000 as the platform from which to <br />maintain the County's property tax maps. The ARC/Info Software <br />System is the.software platform utilized by many State agencies <br />(D.E.R. and St. Johns River Water Management District) with which <br />all County agencies will need to interface in the future. <br />4 <br />
