The County's only contribution to this$366,,000.00 <br />project is the land on which to plant the trees, site preparation, <br />and minimal operational support such as an occasional piece of heavy <br />equipment and operator. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />Since the grant deadline is March 4, 1992, the Board will need to <br />take action on this item as an emergency during the Boards February <br />25, 1992 regular meeting. Staff recommends the Board approve this <br />request and authorize the Veterans Career and Credit Referral Center <br />to submit a grant application to the state ,and purchase, plant, <br />water, and maintain the proposed Round Island Park tree planting <br />project for three years. Representatives from the Veterans Center <br />will be present at the meeting to answer any questions. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Bowman, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Wheeler, the Board unanimously <br />authorized the Veterans Career and Credit Referral <br />Center to submit a tree planting grant application, <br />as recommended by staff. <br />Commissioner Bird recalled that the general manager of United <br />Artists Cable made an offer to the County to plant some trees in <br />the median on SR 60. <br />Public Works Director Jim Davis responded that there had been <br />a problem about the types of trees, and his most recent <br />communication from United Artists Cable indicated they were going <br />to wait until a later date. Mr. Davis advised the Board that the <br />Florida Department of Transportation was planning to revise the <br />medians in SR 60 right-of-way at the end of this year. <br />Chairman Eggert suggested we convey that information to the - <br />manager at United Artists Cable. <br />40 <br />
