r <br />BOOK <br />Commissioner Bird clarified and Chairman Eggert and <br />Commissioners Bowman and Scurlock agreed that the primary charge to <br />LAAC is to fulfill Objective 6, but there is flexibility to -include <br />wetlands as a minor element. <br />THE CHAIRMAN CALLED FOR A VOTE ON THE MOTION MADE BY <br />COMMISSIONER BOWMAN EARLY IN THIS DISCUSSION, AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Bowman, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, to approve staff recommendation <br />that the Board of County Commissioners clarify to <br />LAAC that the primary objective of LAAC is to <br />fulfill the specific acreage acquisition commitments <br />of the policies of Conservation Element Objective 6; <br />however, the Committee is also charged with a longer <br />term objective of acquiring environmental <br />significant lands (beyond the minimum specified <br />acreage), including environmental sensitive wetlands <br />as well as native upland plant communities. <br />It was voted on and carried unanimously. <br />Chairman Eggert led discussion regarding a 15th member. <br />Commissioner Bowman felt strongly that they need a technician. <br />Discussion ensued regarding various fields of expertise. <br />Commissioner Scurlock noted LAAC has been using the services <br />of various professional and technical people, including staff. <br />Nancy Offutt, resident of Vero Beach, was in favor of adding <br />a developer to the Land Acquisition Advisory Committee because <br />their input is important. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Wheeler, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously approved <br />the addition of a 15th member to the Land <br />Acquisition Advisory Committee. <br />Chairman Eggert directed that staff should advertise for <br />resumes to be sent in and a recommendation be presented to the <br />Board. <br />24 <br />_I <br />
