I <br />JUN 3 ' 99 <br />Wal- Azv4 <br />AJorrdJ. <br />BOOK 6, F'1uE 1- 7 <br />Chairman Eggert commented that she still feels that the curve <br />coming off of U.S-#1 onto Indian River Boulevard is the worse we <br />have in the whole of the place. <br />Public Works Director Jim Davis presented staff's <br />recommendation for denial of this request and recommended that the <br />property owners association enter into a single streetlight <br />agreement program. He advised that the average cost is $180 a year <br />per streetlight. <br />Commissioner Wheeler was interested to see if the property <br />owners' association would be willing to fund it, but wanted to see <br />the light installed in any event. In fact, he didn't feel we had <br />enough streetlights on the Boulevard. It is difficult at night, <br />particularly if it is raining, and streetlights go a long way in <br />preventing accidents. The streetlight is needed, but the question <br />is who is to pay for it. <br />Commissioner Scurlock agreed that the big question is who will <br />pay for it. If we are going to adopt a new, major policy to fund <br />the installment of a streetlight at major intersections or <br />intersections that meet a certain level, that is a big policy <br />30 <br />M M M <br />
