• <br />• <br />• <br />2198 LAWS OF FLORIDA <br />Section 54. In the event there is remaining in the bank or <br />banks, or other depository an unexpended balance of money that <br />was derived from the sale of bonds after the work, the cost of <br />which is to be paid therefrom, has been completed, the City Council <br />shall invest such balance in such interest bearing securities as it <br />may elect, to be approved by the Mayor, or deposit same at interest <br />in an approved depository. Such securities shall be turned over <br />by it to the City Treasurer or other proper officer, and the pro- <br />ceeds thereof be applied to the payment of the bonds or the in- <br />terest thereon, as directed by resolution of the Council. <br />Section 55. The adverse result of an election to determine the <br />question of the issuance of bonds for any one or more of the pur- <br />poses mentioned in this Act shall not debar the then existing or <br />any subsequent Council from resubmitting the same question to the <br />legal voters of the City after the lapse of one year; but the ques- <br />tion of bonding for any purpose not already voted upon can be <br />submitted to the vote of the people whenever, in the judgment of <br />the Council, it may be considered advisable. <br />Section 56. All the property within the City taxable for State <br />and County purposes shall be assessed and listed for the purpose <br />of taxation on the City Assessment Roll and the City Tax Assessor <br />shall proceed substantially in the same manner as is provided by <br />law for the assessment of real and personal property for the pur- <br />poses of State and County taxation; and railway and railroad com- • <br />panies, including street railways, shall be subject to assessment and <br />taxation on all real estate and personal property owned by them <br />within the limits of the corporation, in the same manner and at the <br />same ratio and valuation as other property, save and excepting the <br />roadbed and rolling stock of said railroad, which shall be assessed <br />by the State Comptroller, as provided by law; provided, the City <br />may make its own assessment of property for taxation, and the <br />valuation of the property by the municipality shall not be con- <br />trolled by the valuation fixed for State and County taxation, but <br />may exceed the same, and provided, further, the City Council shall <br />act as a Board of Equalization for the purpose of equalizing the <br />valuation instead of the Board of County Commissioners. <br />Section 57. The City Tax Collector shall proceed with the col- <br />lection of the City taxes substantially in the same manner as pro- <br />vided by law for the collection of taxes and sale of property for <br />the non-payment of taxes by State and County Tax Collectors. He <br />shall give all notice required by law, and sell the real property of <br />delinquents in the manner provided by law, and give to the pur- <br />!15 <br />
