If the City Council <br />shall approve the action of the Mayor in suspending such officer, <br />said officer shall thereupon stand removed and his office vacated. <br />If the Council shall not approve the action of the Mayor in sus- <br />pending such officer, the said officer shall resume his duties. <br />Section 22. The Mayor shall have general supervision over all <br />City officers and the police force and may examine into the con- <br />dition of the officers, books, records and papers thereof and the <br />manner of conducting official business. He shall report to the <br />City Council all violations or neglect of duty of any official that <br />may come to his knowledge. He shall make such recommendations <br />about City business to the City Council as he deems advisable. <br />Section 23. The Mayor shall appoint such police force with the <br />consent of the Council as may be deemed necessary. The compen- <br />sation of policemen shall be fixed by the City Council. <br />Section 24. When in his opinion the public good requires, the <br />Mayor may appoint and discharge special policemen and detec- <br />tives, making report thereof to the City Council at its next meet- <br />ing thereafter. <br />Section 25. The Mayor shall communicate from time to time to <br />the Council such information and recommend such measures touch- <br />ing the public services as he may deem proper, and shall perform <br />such other duties as the ordinances prescribe. <br />. Section 26. The Mayor may call special meetings of the Council, <br />and when called he shall state the object for which called, and the <br />business of such meeting shall be confined to the objects so stated <br />in the call, unless all the members of the Council are present, when <br />they may transact such business as they see fit. <br />Section 27. The Arayor may be impeached by the Council for <br />misfeasance, malfeasance or nonfeasance in office, for drunken- <br />ness or gross immorality. Should charges be preferred against <br />the Mayor the Council shall furnish said Mayor with a copy of <br />the charges, giving him a reasonable time to answer, and shall <br />proceed without unnecessary delay to investigate and decide said <br />charges. It shall require a four-fifths vote of all the members of <br />the City Council to remove the Mayor. <br />Section 28. That in case of death or absence of the Mayor from <br />the City, or his inability from any cause to discharge the duties <br />of the office of Mayor, the President of the Council, or in his <br />absence the acting President of the Council, shall discharge the <br />duties of Mayor as "Mayor pro tempore" until the office of Mayor <br />shall be filled, or until the Mayor shall resume his duties. <br />Vo <br />
