so& <br />Indian River County <br />Chomber of Commerce <br />A Resolution <br />In Support of <br />The One Cent Sales Tax Referendum <br />Whereas 60.3% of Indian River County voters first levied a one cent optional sales tax in 1989 <br />for a 15 -year period; and <br />Whereas In 2002, 65.5% of the County's voters approved a 15 -year extension with the current <br />levy expiring December 31, 2019; and <br />Whereas the one cent optional sales tax has benefitted Indian River County residents for the <br />last 27 years; and <br />Whereas the one cent optional sales tax has helped pay for countless capital projects to <br />provide public services that have benefited our quality of life such as law enforcement, new <br />roads and bridges, emergency services, parks and recreation, a library, beach restoration, and <br />stormwater management; and <br />Whereas continuing the one cent optional sales tax will continue to pay for projects that are in <br />the public's interest; and <br />Whereas the one cent optional sales tax has demonstrated it has helped maintain our low ad <br />valorem property taxes savings local taxpayers $248,419,966 since 2007; and <br />Whereas over the last 10 -years, the one cent optional sales tax has helped Indian River County <br />reduce its long-term debt from $143.4 million to $54.0 million; and <br />Whereas the one cent optional sales tax has helped to keep impact fees low for businesses <br />therefore increasing private sector taxable investment in our county; and <br />Whereas the one cent optional sales tax is a tax that everyone pays tax — not just property <br />owners; and <br />Whereas our municipalities receive about $6 million in shared collected one cent optional sales <br />tax revenues, along with about $16 million received by the county; <br />Now, therefore, the Indian River County Chamber of Co <br />ballot ' itiati a ontinue the County's one cent optional al <br />UN—W— <br />Jeff SON Ft, [chairman of the Board Penny Char <br />Schlittces Indian River <br />supports the November 2016 <br />tax lev or anon 15 years. <br />Chamber of Commerce <br />k <br />
