The Americans With Disabilities Act <br />requires that a mechanism be provided through which members of the <br />public can present their complaints. <br />This policy has been reviewed by your staff, the Executive Aide to <br />the Board of County Commissioners, and the County Attorney. Their <br />comments and suggestions are reflected. <br />ON MOTION by Commissioner Scurlock, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously (3-0, <br />,Chairman Eggert being absent) adopted the <br />Administrative Policy Manual unit "Disabilities Act <br />- Public Complaints" as follows: <br />ADMINISTRATIVE <br />POLICY <br />MANUAL <br />POLICY: <br />SECTION <br />PERSONNEL <br />NUMBERI DATE EFFECTIVE <br />AM -607.1 09-01-92 <br />SUBJECT <br />DISABILITIES ACT -PUBLIC <br />PAGE <br />'a 1 OF 2 <br />It is the policy of the County to comply with the Americans With <br />Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Members of the general.public will be <br />provided with an opportunity to present their complaints regarding ADA <br />and appeal decisions by management through a formal complaint <br />resolution procedure. All complaints received will be resolved fairly <br />and promptly. Individuals currently employed by Indian River County <br />may pursue complaints through policy AM -904.1 (Grievance Procedure). <br />COMMENT: <br />1. If a member of the general public believes that they have been <br />discriminated against on the basis of a disability by the County, that <br />person or his authorized representative may submit a written complaint <br />to the County's ADA Coordinator at 1840 25th Street, Vero Beach, <br />Florida 32960.
