Chandler f'L <br />Chandler - <br />County Administrator <br />SUBJECT' Americans With Disabilities <br />Act (ADA) Transition Plan <br />FROM: Randy Dowling REFERENCES: <br />Asst. to County Administrator <br />The county is required by 28 CFR, Part 35, Section 35.150 to prepare a <br />transition plan to identify all structural changes needed to existing county -owned <br />facilities to achieve accessibility for the disabled. All of the structural changes <br />identified in the plan must be completed by January 26, 1995. <br />County staff evaluated all of the county -owned facilities for accessibility using <br />the recently published Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines <br />and the Florida Accessibility Requirements Manual whichever was more stringent. <br />Staff concentrated on the areas within the travel route from the parking lot to <br />and through the facility taking a pro -active position on -low cost and readily <br />achievable structural changes. <br />After the plan was prepared, the Administrator's Office, as required by the <br />federal law, conducted public workshops to receive and take into consideration <br />comments from disabled Individuals and organizations and other interested <br />citizens. A brief synopsis -of the two workshops Is included in the plan. <br />County staff recommends that the Board approve this transition plan and <br />authorize staff to make additions, deletions, and clarifications to the plan as the <br />need arises. <br />20 <br />
