<br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF JULY, 2016, AS
<br />PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH
<br />WHEREAS, Park and Recreation Month was established in 1985 and celebrates its 315t year state and
<br />nationwide; and
<br />WHEREAS, passive and active recreation in Indian River County significantly enhances the quality of life
<br />for its residents and visitors-, and
<br />WHEREAS, active recreation builds teamwork, self-esteem, comradery, life -skills, and contributes to a
<br />healthy mind, body, and spirit-, and
<br />WHEREAS, passive recreation nourishes a love of the outdoors, provides an appreciation of the natural
<br />environment, and contributes to a healthy community and economy; and
<br />WHEREAS, county parks and conservation areas preserve the ecological beauty of our community,
<br />improve water quality, protect groundwater, prevent flooding, improve air quality, are aesthetically pleasing,
<br />and provide open green space for people, and valuable habitat for wildlife; and
<br />WHEREAS, Indian River County is fortunate to have many beautiful parks, playgrounds, ball fields, golf
<br />courses, swimming facilities, nature trails, beaches, and open spaces which make our community a more
<br />attractive and desirable place to live, work, and play; as well as contributing to our ongoing economic vitality
<br />through increased property values, increased tourism, attraction of visitors, and recreational events; and
<br />WHEREAS, Indian River County Recreation Department provides a variety of recreation programs
<br />including water safety, swimming lessons, baseball, softball, football, cheerleading, summer camps, and
<br />special events; and
<br />WHEREAS, parks and recreation agencies, as a whole, touch the lives of individuals, families, groups, and
<br />the community, creating a positive impact through connecting people, protecting the environment, reducing
<br />crime, and providing healthy recreational activities.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN
<br />RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board' designates July as Parks and Recreation Month, and
<br />encourages all citizens to celebrate by participating in the diverse activities offered through the many facilities
<br />and places provided to the residents and visitors by way of the Indian River County Recreation Department,
<br />Indian River County Shooting Range, Sandridge Golf Course, Gifford Aquatic Center, North County Aquatic
<br />Center and any of the Indian River County Parks and Conservation Areas open to the public.
