Brown, County Administrator <br />From: Vincent Burke, P.E., Director of Utility Services <br />Through: Jennifer Hyde, Purchasing Manager <br />Prepared By: Terry Southard, Operations Manager, Utility Services <br />Subject: West Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility Filter Replacement <br />BACKGROUND/ ANALYSIS: <br />In 1996, Indian River County Department of Utility Services (IRCDUS) expanded the West Regional <br />Wastewater Facility (WWTF) and installed the Aqua -Aerobic System Bridge Filter. The filter polishes the <br />final effluent water to ensure that the total suspended solids and turbidity is in compliance with the Florida <br />Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) treatment requirements and is a permit requirement for <br />reuse to public access such as golf courses. Over the last 21+ years, the equipment received routine <br />maintenance that has helped it exceed its normal service expectation of 15-20 years. The filter is in need of <br />total rehabilitation to continue treating the effluent water before going to reuse sites. This is a sole source <br />item due to the structure being built for Aqua -Aerobic Systems Inc. 12.5'x 42' AquaABF Traveling Bridge <br />Filter. Aqua -Aerobic Systems Inc. is the exclusive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) municipal <br />representative. <br />FUNDING: <br />Funds for this project are derived from the Renewal and Replacement (R&R) operating funds.
