PROCLAMATION y� <br />HONORING THE SAMARITAN CENTER <br />FOR 25 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE HOMELESS FAMILIES <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />WHEREAS, in 1992 Ecumenical church leaders and co-founders, Bernard and Betty Egan, along <br />with a group of individuals gathered together to establish a non-profit long-term transitional living facility for <br />homeless families with dependent children; and <br />WHEREAS, the Leaders from the Community Church of Vero Beach, Holy Cross Catholic <br />Church, St. Helen Catholic Church, and Temple Beth Shalom collaborated on the strategic planning of the <br />Samaritan Center and the Diocese of Palm Beach, Inc., donated the land for the interfaith community project <br />located at 3650 41 st Street, Vero Beach, Florida; and <br />WHEREAS, the Samaritan Center was established 25 years ago and became the lead agency in <br />delivering transitional living services to homeless families in Indian River County; and <br />WHEREAS, for those 25 years Samaritan Center has been committed to the mission of offering <br />hope and guidance to the homeless families in Indian River County, and preparing them to live independently; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Samaritan Center's signature fundraising event "Soup Bowl" was created 25 <br />years ago through the brainstorming efforts of the Advisory Board Members, held on the first Thursday in <br />November; bringing community awareness to the plight of homeless families; and <br />WHEREAS, since opening the doors in 1992, Samaritan Center has served more than 600 <br />families and helped more than 1700 individuals travel the road back from homelessness. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the Board recognizes the efforts of the Samaritan Center over <br />the past 25 years in assisting the homeless families of Indian River County. <br />Adopted this 24th day of October, 2017 <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA -I <br />'E. lescher, CI <br />Peter D.
