Reports <br />The following was received and placed on file in the office of <br />Clerk to the Board: <br />Report of Convictions for the month of September, 1992. <br />B. Proclamation Desianatina Month of November as National Diabetes <br />Month in Indian River County <br />P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER AS <br />NATIONAL DIABETES MONTH IN <br />INDIAN RIVER COUNTY <br />WHEREAS, more than 14 million Americans have diabetes, an <br />incurable disease that impairs the body's ability to convert food <br />sugar into energy; and <br />WHEREAS, .diabetes is the fourth leading cause of death by <br />disease in the United States; and <br />WHEREAS, in this year alone, more than 750,000 Americans <br />will contract the disease and 150,000 will die from it, including <br />a disproportionate number of Hispanics, Black Americans and <br />Native Americans; and <br />WHEREAS,•' people whose diabetes goes undiagnosed and <br />untreated are subject to any of its serious complications, such <br />as blindness, heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, and leg or <br />foot amputations; and <br />WHEREAS, an increase in community awareness of diabetes, its <br />human impact, and the American Diabetes Association, may <br />stimulate public action in increasing research toward a cure, and <br />spur individual awareness about who is susceptible to diabetes <br />before they are confronted with one of its complications: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCI.AJMED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY <br />COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that the Month of <br />November, 1992 be designated as <br />NATIONAL DIABETES MONTH <br />in Indian River County.
