ON MOTION by Commissioner Macht, SECONDED by <br />Commissioner Bird, the Board unanimously approved <br />expansion of the Recreation Department's after- <br />school program to enable Vero Beach, Glendale, <br />Rosewood and Beachland Elementary Schools to <br />participate in the after-school program, and to <br />discuss with representatives of the day care <br />industry the possible ways of including private day <br />care centers in the after-school program. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL LAND ACQUISITION - IMMEDIATE COST SHARE FUNDING <br />The Board reviewed memo from Environmental Planning Chief <br />Roland DeBlois dated December 8, 1992: <br />TO: James E. DeBlois ,�XICP <br />Chief, Environmental Planning <br />DATE: December 8, 1992 <br />RE: Environmental Lands Acquisition: <br />Immediate Cost Share Funding Opportunities <br />It is requested that the data herein presented be given formal <br />consideration by the Board of County Commissioners at their regular <br />meeting of December 15, 1992. <br />DESCRIPTION AND CONDITIONS <br />Since establishment of the county Land Acquisition Advisory <br />Committee (LAAC) two years ago and the Board's adoption of the Land <br />Acquisition Guide in May 1991, the County's policy has been to <br />maximize the use of matching funds and grants from the state and <br />federal government for the purchase and protection of environmental <br />lands. Because of the recently approved $26 million bond <br />referendum, the county now has the means to leverage some of these <br />funds by using them as matching funds for state grants. <br />At present, the opportunity exists for the county to apply for <br />state matching funds for two state land acquisition funding <br />programs.
